The top four teams remained the same in this week's girls basketball power rankings.
1. Republic, 5-0 (1)
New week, same spot for the Lady Tigers. Republic its winning streak to 11 with dominating victories over Carl Junction and Kickapoo. The Lady Chiefs are the top seed in the White Division of the Pink and White Lady Classic, where they open up with Springfield Catholic.
2. Walnut Grove, 6-1 (2)
22, 40, 60 and 40 may sound like Lotto numbers, but it is actually the margin of victory in Walnut Grove’s last four games. The Lady Tigers have been on a roll as of late and continue to prove they are on a mission. Coach Henry’s crew garnered the top seed in their own holiday tournament, which starts play Saturday. Walnut Grove will take on School of the Ozarks.
3. Marionville, 8-1 (3)
Marionville continued its winning ways last week with lopsided home wins over Greenfield and East Newton. The Lady Comets, however, will be tested many times over the next few weeks. Thursday Marionville will host Crane in a rematch of the Ash Grove Tournament semifinals in which Marionville was a 61-50 winner. Coach Young’s squad is also the 5-seed in the White Division of the PWLC. A win in their opening round game over Aurora sets up a test against Class 5 power Nixa in the quarterfinals.
4. Ash Grove, 8-0 (4)
Ash Grove continues to be the most impressive Class 3 team in the area. The Lady Pirates blew out Aurora last week (78-46) before running Southwest out of the gym on Monday (64-44). The depth and full court pressure defense used by Coach Milleson’s team has overwhelmed opponents.
5. Nixa, 7-1 (7)
Nixa has been on a roll as of late, winning its last four games by a combined margin of 105 points. The Lady Eagles visit Parkview Thursday before taking on Clever in the White Division of the PWLC where they are a 4 seed.
6. Ozark, 5-2 (5)
Ozark remained idle last week. In fact, heading into the PWLC the Lady Tigers will have had an 18 day layoff. Ozark will get a chance to knock the rust off in Pink Division where they are the top seed.
7. Dadeville, 8-0 (6)
Wins over Lockwood and Dadeville last week kept the Lady Bearcats perfect on the season. Dadeville is yet to play a game closer than 20 points so far. The Lady Bearcats are idle until the New Year when they continue PCL play.
8. West Plains, 7-0 (9)
Last week I was worried that West Plains hadn’t played anyone. Road wins over Jefferson City and Branson have quieted my doubts. The Lady Zizzers take on Ava Thursday and Carl Junction in the first round of the PWLC- Pink Division. Likely wins in those games will set up a game against fellow undefeated Ash Grove in the quarterfinals.
9. Skyline, 8-0 (12)
Windsor and Wheatland became the latest victims of the Lady Tigers last week, falling by a combined margin of 80 points. Skyline, who has played just one game closer than 20 points, will have a battle on its hands Thursday night when they visit Marshfield. Coach Cheek and company are the 7 seed in the PWLC and will take on Willard in White Division play.
10. Crane, 7-2 (13)
Crane has parlayed the momentum gained from its impressive showing at the Stephanie Phillips Classic into a four game winning streak. That energy will be key as the Lady Pirates enter the meat of their preconference schedule. Crane will have a rematch with Marionville Thursday before putting its 8 seed on the line against Greenwood in the White Division of the PWLC. A win over Greenwood sets up a probable game with defending Class 4 state champion Republic.
11. Chadwick, 6-1 (11)
After runaway wins over Lutie (82-16) and Galena (54-22) last week, the Lady Cardinals winning streak is up to six games. Chadwick is idle until Saturday when they take on Monett in the Walnut Grove Tournament.
12. Webb City, 7-2 (14)
The Lady Cardinals have reeled off four straight wins since falling to Nixa by four in the Joplin Tournament. Webb City in idle until next week’s Neosho Tournament where they will take on Forrest City (Ark.), Purdy, and Springdale (Ark.) in pool. Wins their will likely setup a rematch with Carthage.
13. Morrisville, 8-0 (15)
Morrisville got revenge over Pleasant Hope, who knocked them out of districts last year, with a 61-48 win last week. The Lady Panthers are idle until the PWLC next week where they will take on Stockton in the Pink Division. A win would setup a likely game with Arkansas titan Little Rock Hall.
14. Weaubleau, 8-0 (NR)
The Lady Tigers are the third team from the Polk County League to be ranked so far this year. Weaubleau, which returns four starters from last year’s 22 win team, has won its eight games by an average margin of 34 points. Although the schedule hasn’t been too strenuous to date, next month’s Skyline tournament should be a better indicator of where first year coach Brian Gardner’s team is.
15. Southwest (Washburn), 5-1 (8)
The Lady Trojans got their first test of the season Monday and it didn’t go well. Southwest was run out of the gym by a more prepared Ash Grove team. Southwest has a quick turnaround heading into the Walnut Grove Tournament. The 4 seed Lady Trojans open up with Billings on Saturday.
Knockin’ on the door: Carthage (7-1), Sparta (8-1) Mount Vernon (4-3), Blue Eye (6-2), Purdy (7-1), Thayer (6-0), Seymour (7-2), Bolivar (5-2)
