Springfield, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Armando Johnson is hoping that year two will be more successful than year one as the Central head coach.

That hope is sure to be a reality for the young Bulldogs in 2012-2013.

“I’m still struggling trying to make cuts.  I had to extend our cuts because I can’t make up my mind on who will be on our varsity.  The talent level is increasing greatly here and it feels good to look at the quality of kids we have here,” said Johnson.

The top returners for Central this season are 6’0” junior Tre Robinson and 6’0” sophomore D’Angelo Bedell. Robinson and Bedell averaged 10 and seven points per game respectively last year.

“I am very pleased with our sophomores this year.  They gave our upper classmen fits last year and D’Angelo showed his ability to score as a freshman,” said Johnson.

Coach Johnson is also expecting big things from senior transfer Tavion Neal. Neal, who comes from Springfield Lanipher (Ill.) where he was a reserve guard/forward on the Lions’ 3A Final Four team, should offer some much needed size and experience for the youthful Bulldogs.  Tavion showcased his athleticism during football season, catching 35 balls for 623 yards and six touchdowns, all team-highs.

“Tavion is a super kid in his attitude and approach.  I have been pleased with him in every way.  They had some big time players at Lanipher and Tavion expressed his excitement at having the opportunity of playing more here,” said Johnson.

The Bulldogs won just two games in Johnson’s inaugural season. Keeping it simple will be the key to success for Central to win more games.

“The main key will be that we do all of the little things.  The little things like boxing out every time and getting every 50/50 ball will keep us in games each night,” said Johnson.

Johnson is also hoping that his team will play a smoother brand of basketball.

“I think that our team will be more efficient and will do things in a very disciplined way,” said Johnson.

Beyond wins and losses, Johnson expects his team to compete every night.

“We will compete in each contest.  We do not have any height and this will pose problems for us in each contest.  If the kids work as hard as I think they will they will make up for our lack of size with their speed and tenacity,” said Johnson.
