Branson volleyball ready to make climb in COC

Branson, Mo. (For  -- Volleyball is a growing sport in Branson with increasing interest and involvement each year. Girls are starting to play in grade school, and that will only help the Pirates' volleyball program get stronger each year.

Coach Jenny Lotz starts her fourth season at the helm as the Pirates’ head coach. She is looking to build on last year’s record of 15-11-5 (COC 2-7) and believes that with their hard work on and off the court it is possible.

“The Pirates have worked to increase interest and skill in the sport throughout our community by working directly with young players,” said Lotz.  “I believe this program will make large strides in the volleyball world because of their hard work and encouragement.”

Branson has four returning starters and is led by senior Lauren Boone.  Boone was first team all-conference (unanimous selection) and first team all-district in 2012. She will be joined by seniors Ashley Shockey, Jessica Tankersley and junior Ginny Ward. They have worked extremely hard to improve their skills, and they are learning how to compete in all situations and how to handle success.

Juniors Hope Bronn and Rileigh Cline, along with sophomores Regan Still and Emily Hoffman, are looking to see varsity playing time this year.

Playing in the Central Ozark Conference-Large Division, the Branson Lady Pirates know they will have to set their goals high and it will take hard work to achieve them.

“Our goals at the forefront of my mind are to go deeper in districts, improve our competitive drive and to even out the “hills and valleys” of our games to consistently play well,” said Lotz, “I just want them to realize their potential, because they have such greatness within this team.”
