Athlete of the Week: Mitch Moncada, Catholic Soccer

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Catholic soccer has built a dynasty and at the center of it has been Mitch Moncada.  The senior spent four years on the varsity roster, making the state semis in each of those year and leading the Irish to back to back state titles.

"He leads us in practice, he leads us in huddles and leads us in goals," said Tom Guinn, Catholic Head Coach.  "He's the schools' leading goal scorer all-time.  He's just a tremendous player."

Not only a great player, but Moncada is also someone that values his teammates and what they've meant to his success.

"Coming all the way with your bros is the best thing," said Moncada.  "A lot of the guys on the this team are my best friends."

"Mitch is a great guy, you can always count on him to give you advice and be there for you," said Danny Renner, Moncada's teammate.  "And it's always nice to have someone that fast.  That doesn't hurt."
"The best thing about Mitch is everything he's done has been done in a modest fashion," said Guinn.  "He's done it in a humble fashion and he's a tremendous kid."

It's fitting that perhaps the best player Catholic has ever had, finishes his career on top.
"It's better than anything.  better than any other soccer experience I've ever had," said Moncada.  "It's just the best feeling ever."

Moncada finished the season with 61 goals.  He's undecided on where he'll play in college.
