Southwest softball has a good core of players returning this year from last season’s team that finished 9-11 overall.

The returning group includes senior first baseman Destiney Dulin and sophomore center fielder Natalie Johnson. Both players were named second-team all-conference last year. Dulin hit .479 last season awhile Johnson hit .409.

Junior outfielder Laney Moore and sophomore infielder/outfielder Amy Reeves also return to the starting lineup. Moore hit .350 last year, and Reeves hit .327.

Junior shortstop Bonnie Robbins and junior third baseman Khloe Holder return this year after missing last year due to injuries. Both were starters two seasons ago.

“I believe our team will have a variety of leaders. I think most on the team will lead at some point in time during the season. They believe in helping each other out all the time,” Southwest head softball coach Shawn Johnson said.

Freshmen Allie Foss (pitcher) and Anna Church (catcher) will factor into the varsity lineup right away.

“I believe our strengths will be the will to want to get better each and every day,” Johnson said. “I believe our team needs to focus on all aspects of the game and hopefully carry that into playing our best at the end of the season.”
