Hermitage girls basketball will be a young team looking to bounce back from a two-win season last year.

The top returning players for the Lady Hornets include: Faith Sabala (senior guard), Lily Hart (junior guard), Sarah Webb (sophomore guard) and Chelsi Horn (sophomore forward). Horn led that group with 4.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last year. Sabala will be the team’s only senior.

Some new players to watch include: Shekain Andres (junior guard), Marina Suarez (junior guard/forward), Paris Yates (sophomore guard), Grace Newman (freshman guard), Megan Nickerson (freshman forward) and Taylor Copeland (freshman guard). Yates is a transfer from Salisbury. Suarez is a foreign exchange student.

Depth will be a strength, while coach Shane Salmon will be looking for better play on the perimeter.

“We have will depth this year and will be more athletic than last year,” Salmon said. “We must improve our ball handling and scoring this year.”

Look for the Lady Hornets to be playing their best basketball come February.

“I think we can be competitive with teams in our area and the harder we work the better we will play especially the second half of the season,” Salmon said. “We will a young team this year, but I am looking forward to helping them develop into good players and a good team.”

Hermitage opens the season on Nov. 22 at Montrose.
