The Wheaton girls had a 20-win season that included a district championship last year. The Lady Bulldogs will have to replace a lot of production if they are to repeat that success this season. Just one starter returns for head coach Jessica Lombard.

That starter is senior Zoie Simpson.

“Zoie Simpson is our only returning starter her leadership, and defensive presence on the floor will make a huge difference,” Lombard said.

Monica Hinijosa, Arlene Nunez and Lori McNeil all return from last year and will see expanded roles. Allison Whitman and Lily Ray are two freshmen that will have an immediate impact for Wheaton.

“We are young so we are rebuilding again this year,” Lombard said. “The girls will have to understand that it won’t happen overnight to continue to put in the work. Having four starters graduate will be tough on the girls learning to play with each other all over again.”

Wheaton opens the season on Nov. 25 at home against Lamar.
