Katelyn is spelled with a K for a reason.

“I’d throw her out there against anybody anywhere,” said Mountaineers head coach Matt Schubert.

“She started off a little slow, but the third or fourth game she got into it and we really saw what we had, and we just knew that we had a good chance of going to state,” said teammate Kassidy Anderson.

Katelyn Kotlarz is helping lead the Mountaineers with over 200 strikeouts this season and a 1.66 ERA.

“I love just the atmosphere and how you have your defense behind you and you just have to do your job and the people behind you will cover you,” Kotlarz said.

As a junior, she’s etched her name in the record books, with a 15 strikeout game, breaking Mount Vernon’s single game record.

“After the game, coach called me into the dugout and told me I broke the single game record, and I broke the season record later on,” said Kotlarz. “It just gives me enough confidence to be who I am and relax and play the game.”

And this year, she and the Mountaineers are still playing late into May.

“Our team had lost the district championship twice in the last two years so we really wanted to be able to come back and be able to, and we were able to this year,” Kotlarz said.

“Final Four, how’s that sound?” asked reporter Taylor Kauffman. “It’s amazing, I can’t wait,” said Kotlarz, “State Championship, that’s what we’re going for, so hopefully we can get there.”
