SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State men’s basketball coach Dana Ford announced a pair of significant roster changes for the 2019-20 season on Thursday.

Ford confirmed that freshman twins Szymon Wojcik and Jan Wojcik (Pelczyce, Poland) have notified him of their intentions to transfer at the end of the current semester. Likewise, Ford acknowledged that Missouri State has received the necessary transfer credentials for West Virginia University standout Lamont West (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) to join the Bears.

Szymon Wojcik played in 14 games and made nine starts for Missouri State in 2018-19 before suffering a season-ending foot injury at Southern Illinois on Jan. 2. He averaged 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while making 10 3-pointers and converting 91-percent of his free throws as a freshman. Jan Wojcik played in 18 games this season, scoring 1.4 points and snagging 0.9 rebounds per game with a 50-percent field goal percentage.

“We are in full support of Szymon and Jan’s desire to transfer, and we don’t anticipate any additional players departing,” said Ford. “They have both represented our university in a first-class manner during their brief time here. We wish them nothing but the best.”

Lamont West is a 6-foot-8 power forward from Miller Grove High School in Lithonia, Ga. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, West made 36 appearances at WVU in 2018-19 with 20 starts for coach Bob Huggins’ Mountaineers. He scored a team-best 400 points, averaging 11.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game as a junior. He also knocked down 64 3-pointers and converted 78 percent of his field goals for a 15-21 squad.

As a sophomore in 2017-18, West earned 20 starts and averaged 9.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for an NCAA Tournament squad with 55 made 3-pointers. He played in 37 games his freshman year with a 5.6 scoring average and 35 treys.

“Lamont is a very bright, high character young man who takes great pride in being a student-athlete,” said MSU Associate Head Coach Corey Gipson. “As talented as he is on the court, his work ethic in the classroom afforded him the opportunity to be on the Academic All-Big 12 second team.  He will immediately add a great deal of leadership and experience after having been a part of two NCAA Sweet Sixteen teams at West Virginia and part of two Big 12 championship games. His multi-faceted game and sharp shooting ability will most definitely increase the versatility of our roster from all positions.”

As a graduate transfer, West will be immediately eligible for the 2019-20 season and will have one season of eligibility for the Bears.
