The Miller Lady Cardinal softball team is still in search of its first double-digit win season since starting spring softball back in 2015. They have a quality group of returning players who appear poised to be able to make that goal a reality.

Three all-conference selections in Macy Mitchell (senior), Jessica Epps (junior) and Ashlynn Hill return to lead the team. Mitchell earned second-team all-conference honors on the infield. Epps was an honorable mention selection at utility. Mitchell was honorable mention at pitcher.

Mitchell, who hit .618 last year, will be the team’s shortstop this year and be joined on the infield by seniors Kiarra Cole (first base), Lindsey Burch (second base) and Katie Lung (third base) along with freshman Kaylee Helton (catcher). Cole (.400), Burch (.317) and Lung (.423) all bring strong bats to the lineup.

Coach Jamie LaSalle has high expectations for Mitchell this year.

“We look for a big year from Macy Mitchell,” LaSalle said. “She will step-up this season and be a leader for us. She is very good defensively and had an extremely good year at the plate last season.”

Epps will be the top outfielder along with fellow junior Jazmin McElroy.

Junior Taylor Belcher and freshman Allie Mitchell will see time in both the outfield and infield. Belcher hit .439 last season.

LaSalle has a large group of players who could see time pitching in addition to Hill, who had all six of Miller’s wins last year. Burch, Epps, Belcher and both Macy and Allie Mitchell could see time at pitcher this year.

Overall, LaSalle says experience and hitting will be strengths while defense will need to improve.

Miller opens the season on Mar. 15 at home against Billings.
