SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State freshman forward Szymon Wojcik is expected to miss the remainder of the season after an MRI this week revealed a Lisfranc tear in his left foot.

The Lisfranc is a ligament that runs between two bones called the medial cuneiform and the second metatarsal. The injury will require surgery, which will likely end his season.

“We hate to lose anybody, especially someone with the character of a Szymon Wojcik,” said head coach Dana Ford. “We know he will return better than ever, and we will see who will step up in his absence.”

Wojcik, from Pelczyce, Poland, sustained the injury during the Southern Illinois game on Jan. 2 in Carbondale. He has played in 14 games with 9 starts this season and was averaging 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
