Evangel gets back on track with big win

MARSHALL, Mo. – A dominating total team effort saw the 11th-ranked Evangel football team roll past Missouri Valley 37-7 Saturday afternoon in Heart South Division action.

The Crusaders scored on their opening drive and built a 37-0 lead before Missouri Valley scored in the final 1:11 of the game. Evangel totaled 424 yards of total offense while rushing for 275 yards in the win in addition to scoring touchdowns on its first three drives of the game.

Darrius Lee led the way with 101 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown while Zeke Kuyawa added 90 yards on the ground and touchdown.

Cameron Hardesty finished with 149 yards and two scores as the junior found Noah Pierce and Adam Schrock in the end zone. Pierce led Evangel with three catches for 69, while Dallas Hester added three catches for 32 yards as well.

The Evangel defense just missed its first shutout of the season adding three sacks and six tackles for a loss in the effort. Andrew Poppen and Sam Morton each tallied an interception while Telacey Wilder recovered a fumble helping the Crusaders win the turnover battle.

Andreas Moeller led Evangel with seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss as Morton finished with six tackles, 1.0 sack and 1.0 tackle for a loss in addition to the pick.
