Evangel football breaks into NAIA Top 10

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel football team jumped one spot Monday to No. 10 in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll released by the organization.

The Crusaders moved to 4-0 after a 35-13 win at Peru State on Saturday. Evangel is still one of four teams ranked in the Top 25 joining No. 11 Grand View, No. 12 Baker and No. 15 Benedictine as the Crusaders hold wins over Grand View and Benedictine.

The top nine spots remain the same with defending national champion Saint Francis (Ind.) holding the top spot followed by No. 2 Morningside (Iowa). Southern Oregon continues its spot at No. 3 followed by Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Northwestern (Iowa) to round out the top five.

Evangel makes its highest appearance in the rankings 2006 when it started the season No. 6. The Crusaders had climbed as high as No. 10 before checking in at No. 8 in the postseason rankings the previous season in 2005.

Evangel returns to Tiger Stadium on Saturday as Culver-Stockton heads to Ozark. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and is also slated as the Heart Game of the Week and can be seen live on Mediacom 22 and ESPN3 on the Watch ESPN App.
