After finishing just under .500 last season, the Liberators take the field with a healthy Katie Brooks, who left last season with an injury. She steps back into the circle for her sophomore season after verbally committing to Florida State. Brooks said it wasn’t an easy decision from the start, but it became clear after she made a trip to campus.

“At first I didn’t want to go down there, but my travel ball coach was like it’s a great experience, they’re a great program, great coaches, a great college. So I was like, ‘okay, I’ll go down there because they want me down there.’ I went down for camp and I fell in love, and ever since then they’ve been my number one school,” said Brooks.

Brooks said that the process was intimidating, but now that it’s over she’s ready to play.

“My goal is to come out and attack other teams. We have a very young team, but we have a very strong team, and I feel like we can make some noise this year,” Brooks said.

She still has this year and two more years with Bolivar, and assistant coach Nathan Rothdiener says they’re happy to have her.

“She stands out. Her skill set is clearly above a lot of girls because the amount of time she’s put into it. We know that hard work pays off, and she has put a lot of work into it,” Rothdiener said.
