2018 Fall Preview: Marshfield Volleyball

Marshfield has a new head coach in Jarod Olson who takes over after serving as an assistant in the program.

He takes over a program that finished 23-8-2 and district runner-up to Rogersville in Class 3, District 11.

Seniors Emily Whitehurst (hitter/setter), Alexis Moon (libero), Leiken Barton (hitter) and Maddie Gardner (hitter) will all have big roles for Marshfield this year. Moon was a first-team all-conference selection last season after she led the Lady Blue Jays with 354 digs. Whitehurst had 156 digs and 40 kills last year.

Juniors Emily Aldridge (hitter/setter) and Addison Crider (hitter) return after all-conference selections in their sophomore seasons. Aldridge led the team with 648 assists last year after no other player had more than 15. Crider was second on the team in kills with 189 and was second with 37 aces serving.

Anne Gray, Sydney Cox, Darby Foster, Audrey Ragsdale and Rileigh Mings will also see varsity time in their junior seasons. Sophomores Brooklyn Crawford, Briana Utecht and Alliyah Joiner will also be in the rotation.

Marshfield will see some different competition this year as the Lady Blue Jays join the Big 8.

“We are excited about the tough competition we will face in the Big 8, and hopefully, we will be competitive with everyone,” Olson said. “We don’t have a lot of size, but we are athletic, and our kids have shown very good chemistry this offseason.”
