Signing bonuses for area MLB draft picks revealed

The signing bonuses for area MLB draft picks have been revealed via MLB.com.

Aurora graduate Wyatt Sparks was the last area draft pick to sign. Sparks picked up a $125,000 bonus for signing with the Rangers. He decided to forego a college career at Missouri State and sign with Texas after being drafted in the 23rd round and 689th overall.

Missouri State junior Jeremy Eierman received a $1,232,000 bonus from the Oakland Athletics. Eierman was the 70th overall pick. The pick value was $872,400, so the A’s payed almost a half million dollars over the pick value to lock down the MSU shortstop.

Dylan Coleman earned a $500,000 bonus from the San Diego Padres. The Missouri State pitcher was selected in the fourth round and 111th overall.

Parkview graduate and Missouri State centerfielder Hunter Steinmetz earned a $125,000 bonus from the Toronto Blue Jays after he was selected in the 11th round, 326th overall.

Miller native Boby Johnson got a $75,000 bonus from the Colorado Rockies. Johnson, who pitched for Bradley University this year, was 4-2 with a 3.93 era with 47 strikeouts in 50.1 innings for the Braves this year.
