Miller senior Shayne Mallory was hitting on all cylinders in the Lady Cardinals’ 46-36 win over Ava in the opening round of the Walnut Grove Holiday Tournament. She poured in a game-high 23 points that included five 3-point makes. Teammate Bethany Gulick was also in double figures at 10 points. The Lady Cardinals took a 28-16 lead into the half, but Ava would fight back in the third quarter bringing the game within two before Miller pulled away again. Ashton Bewley led Ava with 15.
Miller will face top seed Walnut Grove in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. on Dec. 26. Ava will take on No. 16 seed Hurley at 9 a.m. on Dec. 26.
