Drury held Lyon College without a field goal for the game’s first 11 minutes and cruised to an 81-50 win over the Scots on Saturday at the O’Reilly Family Event Center.

The Panthers improved to 7-2 and dropped Lyon to 3-7.

Drury built a 25-4 lead to start the game holding the Scots to just four made free throws until Lyon forward Eric Moses made a lay-up with 8:36 left in the first half. The Panthers led 45-16 at halftime.

The 50 points allowed by Drury was a season low.

The Panthers shot 58 percent from the field going 28 for 48 from the floor and 12 for 19 from three-point range. Drury held Lyon to 35 percent shooting as the Scots hit just 15 of their 43 attempts.

Drury also owned a 39-18 rebound advantage.

“The key was to improve our collective defense and our defensive field goal percentage,” said Drury head coach Steve Hesser. “To beat good basketball teams, you’ve got to stop people and I thought we did a better job of that today.”

Freshman forward Julius Walker led the Panthers with 11 points. The Springfield-Greenwood product came off of the bench to go 4 for 5 from the field. Tyler Clanton and Kolbe Kinghorn both had 10 points as part of balanced Drury offensive attack.

Emir Sabic led Lyon with a game-high 18 points.

The Panthers are idle until Dec. 17 when they travel to Daytona Beach, Florida to take on Embry-Riddle for a 6 p.m. (central) game.
