Camdenton’s Wilson in contention after day 1 of state golf tournament

CLASS 2 – Camdenton senior Amber Wilson (74) finds herself within striking distance of an individual state championship after day 1 of 2 in the Class 2 State Golf Tournament at Sedalia Country Club.  Wilson is tied for third with four others at four-over par, trailing the co-leaders by three strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Wilson finished 23rd as a freshman, 15th as a sophomore and 14th as a junior; the latter two earning all-state honors.

Camdenton (372) sits in seventh out of eight in the team standings, trailing leader Notre Dame de Sion (315) by 57 strokes.

Wilson is in the final group Tuesday, teeing off at 10:09 on no. 1.

Joplin’s Anna Iorio (79) is in good position to earn all-state honors in 14th place.

Carl Junction’s Kylie Carnes (81) is two strokes behind Ioria in a tie for 19th place.

CLASS 1 – Purdy’s Zoe Brown (83) finds herself in a tie for 5th place after day 1 at the Columbia Country Club, but trails the leader Sarah Bell (69) from Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau) by 14 strokes.

Springfield Catholic’s Kayla Pfitzner (84) is also in the driver’s seat for all-state in a three-way tie for 7th place.

Logan-Rogersville (421) is the top local team in 6th place, one spot ahead of Mt Vernon (453).  Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau (319) leads the field by an incredible 36 strokes
