1 Awards – 2017 Male Athlete of the Year Finalists

Ian Meyer, Monett

Meyer led the Cubs to a state football championship in the fall by completing 61 percent of his passes for 2,006 yards and 22 touchdowns through the air. He rushed for an additional 436 yards and 17 touchdowns. He earned first team all-state honors in Class 3 at quarterback. In the winter, Meyer finished 43-4 on the wrestling mat where he was state runner-up at 195 pounds in Class 2. The Monett Cub finished his high-school career by going 6-0 with an 0.69 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 50 and 2/3’s innings pitched for the baseball team.

Josh Pruett, MV-BT/Liberty

Pruett was a first team all-state selection at quarterback in his senior season. He was 196-for-301 passing with 2,761 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also rushed for 926 yards and 19 touchdowns along with tallying 118 tackles on defense. On the hardwood, Pruett scored a team-high 14.8 points per game for the 18-10 Eagles. He also pulled down 4.7 rebounds per game along with 4.1 assists. Pruett capped off his high-school career by qualifying for the Class 2 State golf tournament where he finished 46th.

Conner Sechler, Bolivar

Sechler is a Missouri State baseball commit, and he showed why in his senior season at Bolivar. The Liberator finished the 2017 campaign with a 6-2 record, 1.24 ERA to go along with 101 strikeouts in 56 and 2/3’s innings pitched. In the fall, he triggered the Bolivar offense with 2,235 yards passing for 29 touchdowns. He finished his season completing 60 percent of his passes. Sechler also came back out for the basketball team, where he started for the Liberators, who finished as state runner-up in Class 4.

Julius Walker, Greenwood

Walker was at the head of a banner athletic year for Greenwood. He started the year by leading the Blue Jays to the Class 1 soccer Final Four. He scored 18 goals and tallied six more assists on his way to being named Southwest-Central Region Player of the Year and First Team All-State in Class 1. On the hardwood, Walker averaged 28 points and 9.5 rebounds per game for a Greenwood team that came up one basket shy of making it to the Class 2 Final Four.
