Drury falls in battle of regionally ranked teams at Mo West

ST. JOSEPH – Missouri Western hammered out 20 hits to score 12 runs, and claim a 12-2 non-conference win over the Drury baseball Panthers Wednesday.  Drury falls to 30-16, and Missouri Western improved to 29-18.

The Griffons used RBI singles in the first and second innings to jump out to an early 3-0 advantage.   Drury kept Missouri Western off the board in the third, but the Griffons scored two runs on three hits in the fourth to push their lead to 5-0.  Nick Gawley, the Griffons leadoff hitter, went yard with a two-run shot in the sixth to make it a 7-0.

Dylan Bradshaw, a junior from Lebanon, hit a two-run homer in the Panther eighth to bring in Ryan Kayhill for Drury runs.  Missouri Western finished with a flurry in the bottom half of the eighth, scoring five more runs on seven hits to make it a 12-2 final.

Gawley, who went 4 for 4 on the day, scored four runs, and had four RBIs.  Joining Bradshaw with hits for the Panthers were Kevin Abernathy and Ryan Colombo.

Dustin Agnew remains unbeaten on the year (6-0), and allowed just one hit in 5.2 innings for the win.  Trey Faulconer (0-2), a junior from Ozark, allowed five earned runs in 3.1 innings to get the loss.

Drury ends the regular season this weekend (Saturday-Sunday), when they play Missouri-St. Louis in a four-game series in St. Louis.  Games start at noon each day.
