From state champ running back at Rogersville to All-American linebacker at Missouri State and now NFL Draft prospect; hard work has certainly paid off for Dylan Cole.

We sat down with the 6-foot, 240 pound linebacker about his thoughts on the draft process, what he’s hearing and where he wants to be by the end of the weekend.

“I’m a little anxious, but I’m basically at peace with it,” said Cole.  “God knows where I’m going to be, where I’m going to be, when I’m going to be there, but it’s going to happen either way.  I’m blessed either way.”

Cole, who skyrocketed on draft board after a spectacular pro day, is likely to be the first MSU Bear drafted since OL David Arkin was taken by the Cowboys in the fourth round in 2011.

“Three weeks away and people are making mock drafts, but at the end of the day they’re not the teams making drafts,” said Cole.  “It’s not what the fans want or the writers want, it’s what the teams want.  I’m going to make a mini camp and that’s just step one of where I want to be.”

Cole, who redshirted his freshman season before starting every game the next four years, led the FCS in tackles this past season.  He turned heads at his pro day on campus with 32 bench reps and a 39-inch vertical, both better numbers than any linebacker at the NFL combine.  His 4.52 40 puts him squarely in the top five among linebackers.

“There’s plenty of FCS players playing right now.  So what if I’m an inch or two to short, I’m a smart player, athletic, coachable, the list goes on.”

Cole plans to be with his family and select friends for the draft.

“I just want to make sure I appreciate the time and I’m definitely going to enjoy it when I get the call.”

“I’m excited wherever I go.  Whoever picks me is going to get a good one and I’m definitely going to play my hardest for them.”

NFLDraftScout.com projects Cole as the 15th best outside linebacker and has him going in the 5th or 6th round.
