SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State forward Robin Thompson (St. Louis, Mo.) announced his intentions Thursday to transfer to another program, according to Bears’ head coach Paul Lusk.

“Robin informed me of his plans to transfer in pursuit of more playing time,” Lusk said. “We wanted him to be here and be part of our program, but we respect his reasons and appreciate all he has brought to Missouri State. He has been tremendous to coach and work with every day he’s been here.”

Thompson, a 6-foot-6 product of the MICDS program in St. Louis, has two years of eligibility remaining. He played in 37 games in his three seasons in Springfield, scoring 51 points and grabbing 40 rebounds. He made four starts, including three as a true freshman in 2014-15 before an injury prematurely ended his season. That season ultimately turned into a redshirt campaign for Thompson. He saw action in 10 games this season, playing 44 minutes.

“I’d like to say thank you to coach Lusk and the MSU community,” said Thompson. “I met so many great people that helped mold me into a different person than when I came here. I learned so much as a student, athlete and person. Unfortunately, I won’t be finishing with the Bears, but there are plenty of things that I will take with me in the future.”

The Bears will now have five returning lettermen and four returning starters for the 2017-18 season, in addition to five newcomers and returning squad members Ronnie Rousseau III, Ross Owens and Greg Williams.
