Rogersville, Mo. — The Bolivar Liberators knocked off the Logan-Rogersville Wildcats 6-3 in Rogersville Monday afternoon to run their seasonal record up to 7-1.

The Liberators collected victories in four of six singles matches and in two of three doubles pairings to pick up the win.

“Rogersville and us are always a good matchup and we usually play each other pretty close,” said Liberator head coach Chuck Martin. “Our kids played well today to pick up a big conference win for us.”

Grabbing singles victories for Bolivar were Corey Spindler, Chris Holt, Braden Rothdiener and Sam LeWright. Teaming up for doubles victories were Spindler and Kaden Katzer along with teammates Holt and Rothdiener.

“Holt played extremely well today dominating his singles match,” Martin said. “Playing equally well was our number one doubles team of Katzer and Spindler. It was a really good win for them.”

Also having a big win was the Wildcat’s number one single’s player Jack Gold. The senior left hander downed the Liberator’s Katzer 8-3.

“I started out playing well today but he broke me a couple of times,” Gold said. “But I was able to finish out the match more consistently than him to get the win.”

The Wildcat senior drew words of praise from his head coach, Martin Versteeg.

“Jack is a very resilient kid,” said the Rogersville coach. “He knows how to play the game and he knows how to win.”

For the 3-4 Wildcats the 2017 tennis season has been a real challenge.

“We lost a lot of players from last year. Only three players from that team returned so overall were very young and inexperienced,” Versteeg said. “For a bunch of kids who haven’t had much varsity playing time they played very good today. They represented our school well.”

Gold agreed.

“It’s been a tough year so far,” Gold said. “But with so many young players on our team I think the future for tennis at Rogersville is very good.”

Rogersville will compete in the West Plains Tournament on Tuesday (April 18). Bolivar will next see action on Thursday when they entertain the Nixa Eagles.
