Drury’s defense falters in finale loss to Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T outscored Drury 44-29 in the second half on their way to a 77-62 win over the Panthers on Thursday night in Rolla.

Drury ends the regular season with a 17-9 record, a 10-8 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and loss snapped the Panthers’ four-game winning streak. Missouri S&T improved to 11-14 and 6-12 in the league.

Senior forward Joshua Palmer had a season-high 21 points and had 8 rebounds.

“(Missouri S&T) was the tougher basketball team,” said Drury head coach Steve Hesser. “They did a better job of executing their defense than we did. We need to re-group for our tournament game at home on Sunday and I hope we come out and give a more sincere effort than what we did tonight.”

Randy Holmes came off the bench to lead Missouri S&T with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Jalen Myers added 18 points.

The Miners shot 52 percent from the field in the second half going 16 for 31 and 7 for 14 from three-point range in the half.

Drury is at home on Sunday in the opening round of the GLVC tournament. The Panthers host Rockhurst on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the O’Reilly Family Event Center. Tickets can be purchased by calling the O’Reilly Family Event Center box office at 417-873-6389.
