Evangel men secure third straight win, 89-74 at Clarke

DUBUQUE, Iowa – A hot start helped the Evangel men’s basketball team pick up its third straight win with an 89-74 road win at Clarke in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

Evangel continues to keep its postseason hopes alive, however still needs help to reach from both Missouri Valley and Peru State. The Crusaders stay in 11th in the conference standings as they enter the final week of the regular season.

As Evangel earned its third straight victory with all three coming away from the Ashcroft Center. A 16-0 run midway through the first half helped the Crusaders open a commanding lead as Evangel also shot over 60 percent from the field and knocking down 10 three-pointers.

Despite cooling off in the second half, Evangel still shot 51 percent from the field in the half and 47 percent from behind the three-point line. Dylan Bekemeier finished 4-of-6 from behind the arc as he finished with 14 points.

Marcus Miller led Evangel with 16 points in the win as he was 8-of-11 from the field and pulled down five rebounds. Cody Geiger added 15 points while Richard Chapman and Clark Brewington also finished in double figures with 13 points and 10 points respectively.

Clarke was led by Avery Butler who finished with 19 points and five rebounds as they also shot 45 percent from the field in the game.
