Paul Hansen has extensive coaching experience in Springfield, but is now getting his first crack at being a head coach.  The Evangel graduate has been named Parkview High School’s new football coach, replacing Anthony Hays who left for the same position at Branson last month.

“We just really like the area,” said Hansen, who went to Park Hill High School in Kansas City.  “It gets us closer to my family in Kansas City and my wife’s family in the Willard area.”

Hanson is currently the offensive coordinator at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, an NAIA program in Waxahachie, Tx.  He works with fellow Evangel grad Frank Tristan, who is the head coach.

“The opportunity to bring someone with collegiate level experience to lead our students is a win for Parkview and the District,” said Randy Stange, director of athletics and student activities.  “Paul’s expertise will move Parkview in a positive direction on and off the field.”

His expertise is on the offensive side where he’s had tremendous success everywhere he’s gone.

Following a stint coaching middle school in Springfield, he led the offense at Hillcrest during Dorial Green-Beckham’s four years.  From there he went up I-44 to Marshfield where his offense set multiple records behind quarterback Blayne Armstrong.  And his most recent position, Hansen guided SAGU to back-to-back record setting seasons offensively.

Hansen is excited about getting back to Springfield and feels his experience at the college level will help with getting these players to that level.

“I’ve worked with a lot of kids and I know what it takes to get recruited,” said Hansen.  “I really want to help our kids get to college, get a scholarship, and a get a college degree.  I know how to do that.”

Hansen inherits a Parkview team that went just 2-7 last season but returns a ton of talent.

“A lot of these juniors and seniors I had as kindergartners and first graders (as a teacher), so I know a lot of these kids already.  I still have a relationship with a lot of those families and kids.”

Hansen, who has a BS in physical education from Evangel and a Masters of Education from SBU, will teach physical education and weights at Parkview.
