Ed Beach (Drury Sports Information) ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drury rallied from six points behind late in the second half to defeat Maryville 68-65 in St. Louis on Thursday.

The Panthers took a 66-65 lead with 1:13 remaining on free throws from Douglas Moore. Maryville then missed a three-point shot, but got another opportunity following a steal and misfired from three-point range again. Kamau Kinder grabbed the rebound for Drury and was promptly fouled with 1.3 seconds remaining. His free throws gave the Panthers a three-point lead and sealed the win.

“I’m really, really proud of the guys,” said Drury head coach Steve Hesser. “We didn’t play our best game, but Maryville gets a lot of credit for that. We just made enough plays to win but when things didn’t go our way, we didn’t get our heads, we made plays and I’m proud of them for that.”

Isaac Johnson led Drury with 17 points. Joshua Palmer added 13 points while Kinder had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Anthony Johnson led the Saints with 17 points.

Drury owned a 40-29 rebound advantage and had 11 offensive boards.

The Panthers play on the road again Saturday with a game at Missouri-St. Louis. Tipoff is at 3 p.m. at UMSL.
