Drury swim teams hold leads after three days at GLVC championship

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Drury University’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams will take leads of more than 100 points going into the fourth and final day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

 After three days of competition, the Drury men’s team owns a 124.5-point lead over second place Missouri S&T. Drury’s women’s squad is 115 points ahead of defending league champion Truman State.

 The Drury men’s team finished first and second in the 500-yard Freestyle with Joan Casanovas winning the event with a conference record time of 4:22.02 and Konrad Stepien following in 4:23.54. Jun Han Kim also set a league record as he won the 200-yard Butterfly with a time of 1:45.93.

 The Panthers women’s squad broke two more conference records on Friday and won their fourth straight relay event in the championship. Katya Rudenko broke her own league record in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 53.63. Bailee Nunn won the 100 Breaststroke with a conference record time of 1:00.04 while teammate Zuzanna Chwadezko, who previously held the GLVC mark, finished second with a time of 1:00.86. Drury’s 800-yard Freestyle Relay team of Chrysoula Karamanou, Erica Dahlgren, Megan Ouhl, and Zuzanna Chwadezko won by more the more than five seconds giving the Panthers four relay wins in four races so far in the event.

 Men’s scores through Day Three: Drury 630 points, Missouri S&T (505.5). University of Indianapolis (423.5), Truman State University (314), Lewis University (264), William Jewell College (221), McKendree University (198), University of Missouri-St. Louis (196), Bellarmine University (92) and Maryville University (36).

 Women’s scores through Day Three: Drury 693 points, Truman State (578), Indianapolis (423), William Jewell (319), Lewis (272), Maryville (156), Quincy University (154), Bellarmine (136), Missouri-St. Louis (131) and McKendree (70).

 The GLVC Championship concludes Saturday. The fourth day of competition begins with the preliminary heats of the 100-yard Freestyle at 9:30 a.m. (central).
