TOPEKA, Kan. – The Drury Lady Panthers used a 17-3 run in the second quarter to pull away from Washburn on their way to a 74-43 win at Lee Arena in Topeka, Kansas on Saturday.

The win raised Drury’s record to 4-0 while Washburn dropped to 2-2.

Drury led 38-21 at the half after owning a 15-13 lead at the end of one quarter. The Lady Panthers kept momentum into second half outscoring the Ichabods 17-9 in the third period and led by as much as 38 in the fourth quarter.

“We took away some of their tendencies today and held their two leading scorers to a combined 11 points,” said Drury head coach Molly Miller. “It’s a great testament to how well our kids executed our game plan and got down and guarded.”

Drury forced 29 turnovers from Washburn turning that into a 34-5 advantage in points off turnovers.

“That’s a story of how we have to play every game,” added Miller. “We have to have that kind of defensive play for 94 feet every night.”

The win marked the first time in program history Drury has won at Washburn. The Lady Panthers were 0-7 all-time at Lee Arena and had been 5-10 against the Ichabods in the all-time series.

Paige Wilson led the Lady Panthers with 15 points hitting five three-pointers. Hailey Diestelkamp had 13 points while Daejah Bernard, Briana Jones and Emily Miller each had 10.

The Lady Panthers return home to face Harding University for their next game on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Tipoff is 6 p.m. at the O’Reilly Family Event.
