Missouri State tennis coach Mallory Weber added one player for the 2017-18 season Thursday (Nov. 10), as Ellie Burger signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bears next year.

“We are happy to welcome Ellie to the Bear family,” said Weber on the addition of Burger to her squad. “She has proven results throughout her high school career and also in USTA tournaments. Ellie comes from a very athletic family and her game and style of play is no exception. The sky is the limit for how she can keep improving in college and help our program.”

The top singles player at St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Louis, the 5-foot-7 Burger is the No. 2 ranked player in the Missouri and 235th nationally according to TennisRecruiting.net’s class of 2017 rankings. She compiled a 58-9 singles record in high school, playing in the No. 1 spot her final two seasons.

Burger earned a runner-up finish in the state tournament and first-team all-state honors each of the last two seasons, and owns three combined career district and sectional titles in singles and doubles. She notched a seventh-place state finish in doubles her freshman season.

The Chesterfield, Mo., native is the younger sister of MSU baseball All-American Jake Burger, and both her parents competed collegiately at Evansville. Her father, Mike, played baseball for the Purple Aces, while her mother, Shannon, is in the UE Hall of Fame after a standout college tennis career.
