Avila rally knocks off Evangel

Phillip Dowden, (Evangel Sports Information) KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A wild finish Tuesday evening saw Avila University complete an intense rally to knock off the Evangel University men’s soccer team, 3-2, in Heart Conference action.

Evangel built an early 1-0 lead near the end of the first half when Caleb Rodriguez finished a header into the net off a Dom Federici corner kick. The Crusaders would take the lead into halftime, however, the Eagles would tie the game in the 65th minute on a goal from Louis Gallagher.

The goal tied the game just before the match entered a weather delay with 6:43 left to play. The final six minutes would see three goals including the game winner for Avila in the 86th minute.

After a goal from the Eagles in the 84th minute, Evangel’s Kyler Moore netted his seventh goal of the season. However, the Eagles would answer less than two minutes later when a throw in from Richie Lane deflected off the Crusaders goalkeeper into the net for the game-winning goal.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
– The two goals for Evangel were the most goals scored in a Heart Conference match since the program’s inception. The Crusaders had scored one goal three times.

– The goal from Caleb Rodriguez snapped a streak of three scoreless periods for the Crusaders.

– Kyler Moore is now the team leader in goals for Evangel while Rodriguez is third with four goals this season.
