Kylie Carnes and Jenna Teeter each shot a 79 to tie for first place and claim the team top spot for Carl Junction in the Ozark Lady Tiger Golf Invitational on Thursday.

It was a rainy day at Fremont Hills Golf Course in Nixa for the field of 18 teams—one of the largest turnouts in the history of the tournament—but Carnes and Teeter stayed focused and adjusted to the ever-changing conditions of the course.

“This was one of the biggest tournaments we’ve had in a long time,” said Ozark coach and tournament director Daniel Mullis. “With 18 teams represented, there were a lot of good players from the area out here and when you get weather involved, it’s kind of survival of the fittest.”

The rain slowed the greens way down and made the rough that much rougher, but the weather was no match for Carnes’ mental game.

“You’ve got to stay focused and be mentally there because if you’re not, you’re going to lose it,” she said.

Carnes said her irons were the strongest part of her game, giving her the confidence she needed headed to the greens.

“I was really excited coming into the day because I’ve kind of been in a slump lately,” she said. “My iron game definitely was working for me out there. I was putting them pretty close to the hole when I needed to and definitely executed some good shots.”

The highlight of Carnes’ round was a 165-yard shot to land on green No. 6 in two. She lipped out the eagle putt and settled for a birdie.

Teeter sank a birdie on hole No. 5 and missed an eagle opportunity on 11. She said the win was crucial to her confidence heading into the rest of the season and was honored to share the podium with her teammate.

“It feels amazing to be here with Kylie because we know we can shoot well and it’s always good to do it together,” Teeter said.

The Carl Junction duo narrowly beat out one of the area’s top female golfers in Ari Acuff from Kickapoo who shot the day’s second best score of 80. Kenya Medlock from Carthage shot 83 to round out the top three scores.

The first place Carl Junction team of Carnes, Teeter, Ashley Marsh, Breely Pilgrim and Avery Bourassa shot a combined 358. Carthage’s Kimberly Sager, Naomi Rehrer, Sara Golden, Annie Johnson and Kenya Medlock took second place with a team total 374.
