The Missouri State women’s soccer team (0-4-1) fell to Oral Roberts (4-2) after the Golden Eagles tallied three goals to the Bears’ one at Case Soccer Complex on Sunday (Sept. 4). Redshirt senior Molly Brewer netted her first goal of the season while goalkeeper Laura Ketzer made nine saves in the match.

MSU’s Brooke Prondzinski fired the first shot for the Bears in the match, sending the ball just wide of the goal. After taking 10 shots, the Golden Eagles put one on the board after ORU’s Brittney Lawrence connected with teammate Alexia Herrera in the goalie box to give the Golden Eagles the 1-0 advantage.

Momentum changed in the second half as Oral Roberts pushed the ball towards MSU, resulting in back-to-back goals by Lexi Jones within three minutes of each other to give the Golden Eagles a commanding 3-0 lead over the Bears.

Nearly three minutes later, freshman Kayleigh Putnam passed the ball into the box and connected with teammate Brewer on the right side of the goal. Brewer was then able to dribble around ORU’s defenders before finding the back of the net. Recording her 14th-career goal, Brewer broke into MSU’s top-10 career leaderboard in goals scored.

The nine saves made by Ketzer in today’s match is a single-game high for the Bears in 2016. The senior allowed zero goals and recorded 12 total saves combined in the two games in Tulsa this weekend for MSU.

Missouri State returns home for its longest home stand of the season when the Bears play their first of four games against Nebraska Omaha on Friday (Sept. 9) at 7 p.m.
