Record breaking day for Evangel Women’s Soccer in 7-1 win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University women’s soccer team had a record breaking day Tuesday afternoon in a 7-1 victory over Central Baptist.

The Crusaders scored early and often as Courtney Hepola scored her first goal of the season in 13th minute followed less than a minute later by Lesleigh Fenton. Megan Gaither helped with the assist on Hepola’s goal while Natalie Henry earned the game’s second assist.

In all, seven different Crusaders scored in the most points scored ever in a match. It broke the previous record of four goals in a match set by Evangel last Friday in the season opener. Kacie Weatherly, Brooklyn Barnett, Lindsey Frerichs, Becca Tucker and Rachel Williams all scored for the Crusaders.

Evangel held onto the possession nearly the full 90 minutes allowing just one shot in the match. The only shot came on a breakaway by the Mustangs resulting in their only goal of the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
– Evangel set a program record with seven goals in a match breaking a team record set last Friday in a 4-1 win at Stephens.
– The goal for Lesleigh Fenton was her third of the season while Becca Tucker added her second of the year. Fenton now has six points on the season as well.
– With the one goal allowed, Evangel women’s soccer is still in search of its first shutout in program history.
