Young men learn two lessons early in their lives.

First, you never ask your best friend's girlfriend out, and second you never mess with a swarm of bees.

Thursday afternoon the Halfway Cardinals, at home, violated one of those lessons. The Birds messed with a swarm of bees, the Hermitage Hornets- and they got stung.

The Hornets, on base early and often, zapped the Cards for ten hits and ten runs en route to a 10-0 victory. The win pushed their seasonal mark up to 14-5 on the year. With the loss Halfway fell to 9-11.

The Hornets jumped out in front of the Cardinals 3-0 in the first inning. Stone Allen and Cory Nicholson both singled in the frame to get the Bees on the scoreboard early.

Hermitage went on to put up another two runs in the third inning, three more in the sixth and another two in the seventh on their way to collecting the 10-0 victory.

Nicholson and Alex Aubuchon were on the mound to pick up the win for the Bees. Nicholson threw for four innings giving up just one hit while striking out four. Aubuchon, who closed out the game, gave up three hits and struck out seven.

"I just got back from our senior trip," Nicholson said. "So I felt really good today. Our defense played really well behind me. But they always help me out, they always have my back."

"I was throwing in a really nice zone today to," Aubuchon said. "It felt great and I really enjoyed my three innings on the mound."

Allen, Nicholson and Easton Sabala led the Hornets at the plate- each collecting two hits.

On the mound for the loss were the Cardinal's Sean Gumm and Carl Ackels. Gumm allowed the Bees six hits while striking out five. He gave up five runs while on the mound, three of them earned.

Ackels gave up three hits and struck out two. He gave up five runs, only one of which was earned.

"Our kids played well today but they've been playing like this most all season," Hornet head coach Joe Nicholson said. "It's getting close to the end of the season now and our kids are

excited about the district tournament coming up pretty soon. Today's win will go a long way in helping them to prepare for it."

Hermitage first baseman Robert Ideker echoed his head coach's sentiments.

"The win today was a big one for us," Ideker said. "It's helped to bolster our confidence heading in to our district tournament."

The seeding for the 2016 district tournament has already been done. Looks like the Hornets will go in at number three.

"I think that's where they've put us," coach Nicholson said. "But we feel we're better than a three seed this year so our kids will have a lot to prove when we get there."
