Peru State sweeps Evangel in doubleheader

Evangel lost game one of a doubleheader at Peru State 9-4 and were edged 2-1 in the second game as the Bobcats swept the Crusaders on Friday in Peru, Nebraska opening a four game series.

Peru State pulled away from Evangel in game one scoring two runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth. The Crusaders had a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth taking the lead on a sacrifice fly by Austin Alfrey. The Bobcats scored six runs on six hits over their next two innings, however, to take control. Alfrey went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Evangel.

Evangel lost by a single run for the eleventh time this season in a 2-1 loss in game two. Evangel tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning on an error by Peru State pitcher Andrew Robinson that scored Caleb Kaufman. The Bobcats then took the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Caleb Dameron. Cody Holzer (0-4) took the loss for Evangel despite going all six innings. He allowed five hits and two earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts.

The losses extended Evangel’s losing streak to 10 games and dropped their record to 9-28 and 1-15 in the Heart of America conference. Peru State improved to 13-20 and 8-8 in the league.
