SBU basketball great Matt Rogers to be honored

The Southwest Baptist University Department of Athletics has announced the annual CMH Hall of Fame/Honors Night will take place on Sunday, May 1 at 6:00 p.m. This year’s honorees include former men’s basketball player Matt Rogers, and former men’s tennis player Bruce Matter.
 
The event is FREE to the public, with no reservations required. Along with inducting Rogers and Matter into the SBU Athletics Hall of Fame, all current SBU senior athletes will be recognized and honored, as well as the announcement of several awards. The evening will feature a complimentary desert buffet.
 
Matt Rogers – Men’s Basketball (2006-10)

  • Named to 5 Different All-American Teams during his Junior & Senior Years
    • (1st Team – 3 times; 2nd Team – 1 time; 3rd Team – 1 time)
  • Named to 7 Different All-Region Teams during his Junior & Senior Years
    • (1st Team – 6 times; 2nd Team – 1 time)
  • 2008-09 Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year
  • 2008-09 MIAA MVP
  • 2x MIAA Defensive Player of the Year
  • 3x 1st Team All-MIAA
  • 4x MIAA All-Defensive Team
  • Led SBU to 2 Regular Season MIAA Championships
  • Holds SBU Career Records in Free Throws Made (382) and Blocked Shots (411)
  • Ranks 3rd All-Time at SBU in Points (1,638) and Rebounds (830)

 
Bruce Matter – Men’s Tennis (1977-78)

  • 1978 NAIA/ITA All-American
  • 2x NAIA All-District 16 Selection
  • Career Singles Record of 46-10 & Doubles Record of 33-13
  • Best Singles Win: Flight #2 Singles Champion in Bing Crosby Invite in Guadalajara, Mexico

            Best Doubles Win: University of Missouri
        1977 Team Finished 6th in the Nation, 1987 Team Finished 11th in the Nation

  • While at SBU, played teams such as Oral Roberts, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas-Little Rock,   and other NCAA Division I programs
