Even with high gusts of wind, the Falcons were able to keep their composure in both the doubles and singles matches to secure the victory.

Glendale senior Spencer Weller was proud of the way his team performed despite the harsh playing conditions, and was happy to sweep their biggest rivals in their high school career.

“I feel like the wind had an impact at first, but we were able to adjust accordingly and play very well today,” Weller said. “I feel like we’ve been fortunate to have a strong team whenever we play our rival, but it definitely does feel good to sweep a rival since they’ve beaten us in other sports.”

Glendale head tennis coach Bob Cooper said both teams have a lot of respect for each other.

“It is a rivalry, but both schools have the utmost respect for each other,” Cooper said. “Our kids play a lot of tennis together, and we know each players tendencies. It is always a fun time whenever we get to play against Kickapoo.”

The match started off with singles, and Glendale wasted no time getting on the board first.

The three senior captains of Spencer Weller, Hayden Fulk, and Alec Jarvis all won their matches, respectively.

Weller and Fulk both won their single matches 8-3, and Jarvis won his match 8-1.

“Spencer brings a whole lot to our team,” Cooper said. "He is tremendous in both singles and doubles. His strokes are dynamic. His two-handed backhand and his live arm on his serve and overheads are his signature weapons.

“Hayden and Alec have both played varsity for us for awhile and they are really great tennis players, but even better guys,”

Freshman Reid Jarvis from Glendale won his singles match over junior Garrett Howard, 8-4.

Kickapoo was able to squeak out two wins in singles as Garren Shelley defeated Zhilin Huang 8-4, and Alec Musick defeated Zach Smalling 8-6.

In doubles action, Reid Jarvis and Hayden Fulk defeated Garrett Howard and Paul Parrish 8-0. Spencer Weller and Alec Jarvis defeated Nicholas Parker and Robert Gear 8-2. Kickapoo’s No.3 double team of Garren Shelley and Alec Musick defeated Ben Collins and Ryan Moon 8-4.

Cooper was happy that his team was able to win two big matches in two days.

“We’ve beaten two district teams in the past two days so it is nice to always finish on top of your district opponents and conference opponents for seeding reasons," he said.

Glendale will next host Nixa at 4 p.m. on Thursday, while Kickapoo will next travel on Thursday to West Plains.
