Hollister turf project becomes reality

After 18 months of planning, fundraising and preparation the Hollister turf project is nearly complete.  It’s a project that started as a dream and nearing its end with a major boost from the Tri-Lakes community.

“It’s always been an idea for our school and our activities,” said head football coach Jacob Hamon.  “The School Board didn’t really want to use school funds, so we sought donors from the community.  We Started in October (of 2015) and worked until February to seek donors and we hit those numbers.”

Local businesses could choose from sponsorship packages ranging from $2,500 to $10,000.  Because of those contributions the project was 100% funded by private revenue.

“I think what’s great about the turf coming is it can be used for multi-purpose opportunities,” said Hamon.  “I also teach in the weight room, so it’s great to get outside and do a workout, but it’s also great for the band who prepares all of their items for fall shows, baseball can use it in the spring, community events like the Easter egg hunt.  It’s just a great place to do all of our events here at Hollister.  It will be a huge benefit to our kids.”

The project is expected to be finished early next week.

Hollister joins Reeds Spring, who is installing turf this spring as the only COC Small schools with on-campus turf.  Bolivar plays its football games at Southwest Baptist University’s Plaster Field turf.
