The Ozark Soccer Tigers are trending upward, with a dynamic scoring duo and a talented freshmen class taking the field this spring.

After going 13-9-1 last year, including a 6-1 finish in the always-tough Central Ozark Conference, the Lady Tigers have reloaded and will be a threat to win the league championship again this spring.

“We should be able to score,” said Ozark coach Tom Davidson, now in his ninth season at the school. “We have our top two scorers back from last year and our starting goal keeper. All three girls look great so far.”

Only one key piece is gone from last year—Evangel signee Abby Sugrue—who missed the second half of last season due to a broken collarbone.

Returning for the Lady Tigers are goal scorers Maya Davidson and Mikayla Putt. Davidson found the net 21 times last season and added 17 assists, while Putt scored 19 goals and had eight assists. Both players were all-conference selections last year. Goalkeeper Ally Barb also returns for an Ozark team that finished second in districts last season to rival Nixa.

Also returning for the Lady Tigers this spring is all-conference midfielder Lily Axtel, who is currently recovering from foot surgery and should be back early in the season.

Newcomers to the team include a trio of freshmen: midfielder/forward Jadyn Easley, midfielder Keeley Combs, and back Ava Scott.

The combination of key returners and newcomers has Ozark looking like a conference contender yet again this spring.

“We have very high expectations here at Ozark every year,” Davidson said, “but we are hopeful with lots of hard work and dedication, we’ll be there at the end.”
