It wasn’t pretty at the beginning of the game, but the Kickapoo Chiefs continue to get the job done.

The fifth-ranked Kickapoo Chiefs (16-2) continued their hot streak and pulled out a victory by a score of 81-63 over the Parkview Vikings on Friday night at Parkview.

The Vikings (6-12) were the hot team to start the game after they were able to corral six offensive rebounds in the first quarter which led to 12 points to take an early lead.

“I thought Parkview did a great job,” Kickapoo head coach Dick Rippee said. “They came out in the first quarter and controlled the tempo, were very aggressive, and took it right to us,”

But from there things were all Kickapoo.

Junior Jared Ridder had a career high 32 points in the victory.

“I’ve been working on my post game, and it really helped me tonight,” Ridder said. “I took my man down to the post every time and I was really feeling it tonight,”

Rippee had high praise for one of the top ranked juniors in Missouri.

“Jared is a handful. He is an all-around player who does a lot of good things,” Rippee said. “We did a good job of giving him the ball whenever he was feeling it,”

The Vikings had the Chiefs on their heels, only trailing by two with 1:30 left in the second quarter before junior Cam Davis and senior Isaac Johnson sparked an 8-0 run to give Kickapoo a 38-28 lead heading into the half.

The second half belonged to Ridder.

“Coach Rippee wanted us to move the ball and set more screens,” Ridder said. “We were giving up too many offensive rebounds, and we had to cut down on our turnovers.”

Ridder scored 16 points in the third quarter to extend the Chiefs lead to 19 heading into the fourth quarter.

“I give them (Parkview) a lot of credit,” Rippee said. “They were well prepared and played well,”

“We did a better job of limiting them to one shot, and boxing our guy out,” “I thought we moved the ball better and were able to knock down shots that just weren’t going for us in the first half.”

Kickapoo will play Saturday at Ozark against Barstow at 4:30 P.M.

Parkivew will next travel to Joplin on Tuesday at 7:30 P.M.
