Glendale’s Kasey Opfer comes from a family that plays a lot of sports.

Her father, Scott Opfer, who owns and operates Opfer Communications, played college football at Winona State. His wife, Tracy, competed in gymnastics at Winona, where they first met.

After they got married, the Opfer’s had three daughters, Lorin, Alix and Kasey, and one son, Austin.

All Glendale graduates, Austin signed to play football at Winona, just like his father. Lorin, who played club soccer at Mizzou, won the national championship her senior year of college. Alix, a four-year starter and letter winner for the Glendale Falcons, just finished her freshman season at Missouri State University.

Kasey, the youngest of four, has been watching her older sisters play with Glendale under head coach Jeff Rogers for quite some time.

“I’ve been watching my older siblings play sports ever since I can remember,” said Opfer. “Both of my sisters played for Coach Rogers, so I’ve grown up and been around him and his family for most of my sporting career. He’s such a great a coach and high school soccer is a blast because of him. Once I got started, I couldn’t stop.”

When Kasey started her freshman year, she shared the field with her senior sister Alix, where the two led the Lady Falcons to a state final four finish in 2012.

“My favorite season so far has been being able to play with my sister Alix,” said Opfer. “Both of my sisters have taught me so much about soccer, but I do have to say that one season is enough for me.”

Kasey was key to Glendale’s success this year, as she led the team with 22 goals and 13 assists in her sophomore season. She was honored as the Southwest Co-Player of the Year and made it to the First-Team All-State team in Class 3.

She even clinched Co-MVP honors for All-District and All-Region with Nixa’s Alyson Galler.

“This year we did well, but it was tough ending our season early on a loss in the district championship,” said Opfer. “But I’m glad Nixa was able to represent the district and advance all the way to the final four.”

To get in the zone, Opfer remains calm before the storm by blasting tunes out of her iPod as loud as they go, in effort to block out any distractions. She even wears her socks inside out to bring her and the Lady Falcons good luck on the field.

Entering her junior year, Opfer is excited to lead Glendale this upcoming season, as she prepares herself for the collegiate level.

“I just want to have fun and make more memories with my friends,” said Opfer. “I try to give our seniors the best season they can have, because I know it could very well be there last. I plan to be the best team player I can be. I’m just ready to not be an underclassman.”

Opfer has given a verbal commitment to Iowa State to play soccer when her high school career is done in two years.

“When I went to visit Iowa State, it was a perfect fit for me for both soccer and academics,” said Opfer. “I also fell in love with the campus and the way the community supports the cyclones. It was a tough decision, but I wanted to play in the Big 12.”
